At Cone & Graham Inc., we’re proud to announce the completion of the 6-mile extension of State Road 56 (SR 56) in Pasco County. This transformative project, as noted by Patch, extends SR 56 from Meadow Pointe Boulevard to U.S. 301, creating a vital link between Wesley Chapel and Zephyrhills and enhancing connectivity across the region.

On Tuesday, county and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) officials celebrated the project’s completion—several months ahead of schedule. By bringing in additional crews, our team was able to accelerate the timeline on this $59.7 million project, allowing the community to start experiencing the benefits sooner than anticipated.

A Partnership Built on Collaboration

Funding for this project was a collaborative effort involving Pasco County, the City of Zephyrhills, and FDOT, with local property owners donating the rights-of-way land to support the construction. FDOT spokesperson Kris Carson highlighted the strong community partnership that helped bring this project to fruition, underscoring how vital public support and teamwork are for impactful infrastructure development.

Enhanced Accessibility and Improved Quality of Life

This extension offers much more than just a new roadway. The four-lane, divided highway includes a variety of amenities for local residents, with a 10-foot-wide multiuse trail on the south side, a 5-foot-wide sidewalk on the north side, and 7-foot-wide bicycle lanes on the shoulders in both directions. County Commissioner Mike Moore noted that the improved access SR 56 provides will enhance quality of life for residents, helping reduce time spent in traffic and providing better travel options for the community.

In addition, new signalized intersections have been installed at Morris Bridge Road and U.S. 301, seamlessly integrating the new extension with the existing road network.

This project embodies Cone & Graham’s dedication to building high-quality infrastructure that supports the community’s growth and connectivity needs. We’re thrilled to see the positive impact the SR 56 extension will bring to Pasco County and look forward to further opportunities to support Florida’s transportation network.
