Overview

Cone & Graham, Inc. successfully completed a full reconstruction of this vital bridge for the City of Pompano Beach. The project involved the complete demolition and rebuilding of the original 70-year-old two-lane structure, ensuring the bridge met modern safety standards and provided critical infrastructure upgrades. These enhancements included not only structural improvements but also the addition of new columns, upgraded lighting, and advanced drainage systems to handle the region's weather challenges.

A key aspect of this project was maintaining access to the island throughout construction. To accomplish this, the bridge was demolished and rebuilt in phases, allowing for continued traffic flow with minimal disruption. To further ensure efficient traffic management, Cone & Graham invested in a portable stoplight system to manage the one-lane traffic. This system, powered by solar energy, was monitored daily using an app connected to the company's Apple iPhones, enabling real-time adjustments and ensuring smooth operations throughout the project's duration.

In addition to the structural improvements, a new sidewalk was integrated into the design, connecting this bridge to other projects in the surrounding area, enhancing pedestrian accessibility and safety. Communication was a crucial element of the project’s success. Through close coordination between city engineers, local residents, and stakeholders, the project progressed with transparency and efficiency. Although Florida Power & Light (FPL) caused an 8-month delay due to utility relocation issues, Cone & Graham’s proactive management allowed the overall bridge reconstruction to be completed on time.

This project stands as an excellent example of Cone & Graham’s commitment to maintaining access and safety while upgrading critical infrastructure, demonstrating the company's ability to manage complex urban projects with innovative solutions and effective communication.
