WORK
Cone & Graham, Inc. completed the construction of a new four-span bridge over the spur canal adjacent to the S-6 Pump Station, providing critical infrastructure improvements to support water management operations in the area. The project, accessed via Browns Farm Road, required close coordination with the District to manage site access and maintain operational security throughout construction.
The scope of work began with the demolition and removal of the existing double-barrel 8’x9’ box culvert. Following removal, Cone & Graham, Inc. excavated a portion of the spur canal to achieve the specified design cross section and applied embankment stabilization to reinforce the canal banks.
The new bridge structure consists of a prestressed deck slab superstructure supported by prestressed concrete pile bents. Due to the presence of dense rock formations at the site, foundation installation required pre-drilling to specified depths prior to pile driving. To protect the surrounding environment, all work was completed without the use of blasting.
The project also included the construction of new roadway approaches, which featured lime rock base riding surfaces and asphalt pavement. Additionally, Cone & Graham, Inc. constructed the S-6 Shared T-Platform in collaboration with the United States Geological Survey (USGS), enhancing the site’s long-term functionality for both water management operations and future monitoring efforts.
The successful completion of this project improved canal stability, enhanced vehicular and operational access across the spur canal, and provided vital infrastructure to support ongoing water management efforts in the region.
