WORK
Cone & Graham, Inc. contributed to the expansion of Florida’s Turnpike Extension (SR 821) in Miami-Dade County, widening it to 10 lanes from Dolphin Expressway (SR 836) to NW 106 Street (Flagler Station Boulevard). This project addressed the area’s growing traffic demands and involved a range of significant infrastructure improvements.
Key elements included the widening of Turnpike bridges over SR 836/NW 12 Street, NW 25 Street, NW 41 Street, NW 58 Street, and the NW 74 Street Canal. Additionally, NW 117 Avenue was reconfigured into a northbound Turnpike entrance ramp with a slip ramp, maintaining local traffic flow along NW 117 Avenue north of NW 41 Street. Interchange upgrades at SR 836 and NW 12 Street featured three new ramps, while sound walls were constructed to reduce noise in adjacent residential areas.
Further improvements included asphalt resurfacing, drainage upgrades, guardrail installations, new signage, and enhanced lighting. Cone & Graham coordinated lane closures primarily during off-peak hours to minimize disruptions to the community and local businesses. This essential project significantly enhanced capacity, improved traffic flow, and supported long-term mobility in Miami-Dade County.
