Overview

Cone & Graham, Inc. completed the rehabilitation of the S-157 Structure, located on the C-54 Canal in Brevard County, Florida, adjacent to the St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park. Originally constructed by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in 1970, S-157 plays a critical role in flood control for the Upper St. Johns River Basin (USJRB) Project, serving as an emergency outlet for the St. Johns Water Management Area (SJWMA).

The project scope focused on restoring the structural integrity and operational reliability of this vital flood control structure. Work included repairing damaged and aging reinforced concrete components, addressing wear and corrosion on the anchored steel sheet pile wing walls, and performing surface preparation and painting to extend the lifespan of these elements.

Cone & Graham, Inc. also repaired and repainted the structure’s three steel roller gates, each measuring 25.8 feet wide by 9.6 feet high and weighing approximately 21,000 pounds. The team replaced both upstream and downstream safety barriers, installed new staff gauges for accurate water level monitoring, and upgraded perimeter fencing to improve site security.

In addition to structural repairs, miscellaneous site work was completed to ensure compliance with USACE requirements and maintain the operational readiness of the structure. The successful completion of the S-157 rehabilitation project helps preserve critical flood control infrastructure that supports water management and environmental protection in the region.
