Sunlake Boulevard from Ridge Road to SR 52

Heavy Highway
Project Hero Image

Overview

Cone & Graham, Inc. was instrumental in the design and permitting of Sunlake Boulevard, the primary north-south thoroughfare for the Angeline master-planned community in Pasco County. Located south of SR 52 and east of the Suncoast Parkway, the project is part of the Connected City program and lies within a Community Development District (CDD). The roadway spans approximately four miles from SR 52 to the future Collector Road, south of the future Ridge Road alignment.

The roadway design features a four-lane divided urban section with curb and gutter, expandable to six lanes as future growth demands. It includes a variety of multimodal transportation elements: five-foot bike lanes, a six-foot sidewalk on one side, a 12-foot multi-use path on the opposite side, and a five-foot communications easement adjacent to the path to accommodate utility infrastructure. The project also incorporated the design of several roundabout intersections, contributing to safer traffic flow and reduced vehicle speeds.

In addition to Sunlake Boulevard’s design, the project involved widening SR 52 to accommodate new turn lanes and intersection improvements. A signal warrant analysis and signal design were performed to ensure safe and efficient traffic movement at the Sunlake Boulevard/SR 52 intersection. The stormwater drainage system included curb inlets, pipes, and swales to direct runoff to nearby stormwater management facilities, minimizing environmental impacts.

Bridges were constructed where the road crossed designated wetlands, helping to preserve these sensitive areas. Utilities, including water, reclaimed water, and wastewater trunk lines, were installed within the Sunlake Boulevard right-of-way to provide essential services to the Angeline community.

Phase 2A of the development, spanning approximately 430 acres, includes 590 single-family homes and associated amenities, all connected to the main roadway and served by the utility infrastructure within Sunlake Boulevard. The project’s accelerated design schedule ensured timely delivery of critical infrastructure, supporting the ongoing development of this vibrant community.
