WORK
Cone & Graham, Inc. served as the prime contractor for the Taylor Lake Sheet Pile Wall and Drainage Improvements project, delivering critical infrastructure upgrades along the north end of Taylor Lake and 8th Avenue SW. This comprehensive project aimed to enhance flood resilience, improve pedestrian accessibility, and extend the longevity of existing structures.
The project included the replacement of the deteriorating vinyl sheet pile wall along the lake’s northern edge, requiring a temporary lowering of the lake’s water elevation to facilitate the installation. Additionally, Cone & Graham, Inc. completed repairs to the existing weir structure, ensuring continued control of water levels and improved stormwater management.
To address drainage concerns, new drainage structures were installed along the south side of 8th Avenue SW, incorporating a curb and gutter system. The existing closed-flume inlets on the north side were replaced with curb inlets to reduce erosion and enhance stormwater flow. The sidewalk along the south side of 8th Avenue SW was widened, providing a safer path for pedestrians, while a section of the roadway from the pedestrian crosswalk to the park entrance was repaved.
As part of the project, the pedestrian bridge connecting the sidewalks along 8th Avenue SW was repaired, ensuring continued safe access for park visitors. The successful completion of these improvements supports better drainage, enhanced pedestrian safety, and improved access to the Taylor Lake area for the community.
